Automotive Investment Scheme (AIS)
The DTIC incentivises the growth and development of the automotive sector with a grant for investment, by OEMs and component and tooling manufacturers, in productive assets.
Funder & Type of Funding:
- The Dtic
- Grant Fund (rebate)
Funds Available:
- There is no specified limit of the Rand value
- 20% of qualifying investment (OEMs)
- 25% of qualifying investment (component manufacturers and approved tooling manufacturers)
Qualifying Projects:
- Projects must be based in South Africa
- Original equipment manufacturers (Complete Knock Down operations)
- Automotive component manufacturers (part of the OEM value chain)
- Automotive tooling manufacturers (part of the OEM value chain)
- New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) manufacturers
- Energy Efficient (EE) vehicle manufacturers.
Qualifying Costs:
- New Plant, machinery, equipment and tooling
- Second hand, refurbished or upgraded and installed plant, machinery, equipment and tooling
- Building and building improvements
- Competitive improvement costs (component manufacturers)
Requirements:
- B-BBEE Level 1-6 (up to December 2023) and Level 1-4 (from December 2023)
- Minimum production quantities must be met
- Proof of market
- Proof of “matched” funding – required for the portion not funded by the grant
